Alternative Fall Break with Newman

Wednesday, October 18 - Sunday, October 22

The Alternative Fall Break Program at the UNC Newman Center, provides an opportunity for students to engage in mission service over University breaks. Participants spend the day engaged in site-specific projects and justice education with their Newman group (and potentially other universities and organizations), and the evenings in faith-based reflections and community building. This vision of service reflection is really what separates Newman from other alternative break opportunities on campus. While we spend much of our time performing service work, the primary purpose of AFB with Newman is to learn from and live in solidarity with the communities we visit, forming relationships, gaining a firsthand perspective of injustice in our world, and connecting our faith to our daily life. Newman trips focus on the idea of "encounter" and forming relationships through Christian love and service to the marginalized as summed up in the words of Pope Francis: “Whenever we encounter another person in love, we learn something new about God.”
