NEWMAN does it all!
We welcome everyone to the Newman Catholic Community! There are many ways to become involved, serve, and grow in faith in our Parish. For more information contact the Newman Pastoral Associate for Outreach and Community Support.
The Newman Connect program is designed to “connect” and build relationships between UNC students and members of the Newman permanent community through shared life experiences and discussions. Newman Connect is an outgrowth from the Vision 2022 initiative, and strives to create a trusting relationship between the student and the community member who is a match for that student.
Small Faith Groups
SFGs are made up of five to twelve individuals who meet once a week for about an hour to listen to and share thoughts on the upcoming Sunday Gospel or other topics. They are a great way to meet new people at Newman and even to make some new friends. Undergrads, graduate students, adults, and community members are all welcome. You do not have to be Catholic to join. Click to sign up for a SFG.
Justice and Service
Answering the Gospel's call to serve while following the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and growing in faith, Newman offers a number of local service options, and other opportunities to serve the community throughout the year.
The hospitality ministry focuses on making every single member of the Newman family feel at home while they're here. Throughout the year, we enrich Newman with socials and events to build the community, as well as help coordinate the usher and greeter ministries.
Newman's liturgical ministry brings the love of Jesus to all parishioners by training readers, altar servers, and Eucharistic ministers for Masses, organizing Holy Hours, and assisting the pastor. Learn more here.
The music ministry provides a wide variety of joy-filled tunes for Sunday Masses, Wednesday daily Mass, and special events. We welcome all types of voices and instruments - no experience necessary! When you share your talents and enthusiasm, you will feel God's love stronger than ever.
The Angel Tree Project is an annual collection to provide Christmas gifts to children in low-income families. Newman partners with First in Families, Catholic Charities, and local parishes to provide an item on a child's Christmas list. The collection takes place from late November to mid-December.
Celebrate Life Baby Shower
Newman's Annual Baby Shower celebrates and respects life by asking the community to bring unwrapped baby items to any of the Masses during the month of January to benefit women and children served by UNC Horizons, a substance abuse treatment program for pregnant and/or parenting women and their children.
SUMMER FOOD DRIVE FOR KIDS
Each July, Newman takes up a collection for TABLE, a nonprofit organization located in the neighboring town of Carrboro that provides food aid to hungry children in the area. TABLE delivers bags of healthy non-perishables and fresh produce every week to summer schools, summer camps, and low-income homes in several neighborhoods throughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
To support families in need, during the weeks prior to Thanksgiving, lists of the most needed food items are distributed to the parish. Two weeks before Thanksgiving, parishioners return bags of food to be distributed by the Inter-Faith Council and Catholic Charities.
Winter Clothing Drive
The Winter Clothing Drive collects new or gently used items to help our neighbors in need keep warm in the winter. Donated coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves, and blankets are collected and sorted by Newman teens and distributed to a local Catholic paris
