Weather-Related Closure Information

I am writing to let you know some important information regarding weather-related (snow) closures and how Newman makes decisions about operational status. Broadly speaking, we follow the University in making decisions about whether to be open or closed. We will post our operational status on the Newman webpage.

  • If the University is operating on Condition 1 – Reduced Operations, Newman will be open and scheduled activities will occur.
  • If the University is operating on Condition 2 – Suspended Operations, Newman will be closed and all scheduled activities - including Mass, CCN, Small Faith Groups, etc. are cancelled.
  • If the University is under Condition 3 – Closure, Newman will be closed and all scheduled activities Newman will be closed and all scheduled activities - including Mass, CCN, Small Faith Groups, etc. are cancelled.

Information about the University's operational status can be found on the Alert Carolina webpage.

When Newman is closed, our buildings and parking lots are closed as wellThis is for your safety. We cannot guarantee that the walkways and parking lots will not be a sheet of ice and snow with temperatures expected to be at or below freezing during the day and overnight. Additionally, we need to keep the lots clear and give the snow removal company the ability to get onto the property, and to clear the snow and ice so that the parking lot and walkways are safe and accessible for use as soon as possible.

Even though the University is in Condition 2 - Suspended Operations on Thursday, January 18, and as such Newman is closed all day, the funeral Mass of Christian Burial for +Ruth Mitchell will occur as scheduled on this Thursday, January 18 at 6:00pm in the Church. As always, please use discretion whenever there is inclement weather and making decisions about driving.

Please be in touch with questions or concerns.

Peace-
Fr. Justin
